America is land of the free home of the brave, because of the brave. In America’s 250 year existence, American men have been called on by draft or by choice to serve in one of the branches of the United States Military, to fight in a war in some far off land to ensure that, that war does not come to our homeland and hurt our families.

Most of these men, were very young, and had their whole lives ahead of them but they did not hesitate to answer the call to fight for America, to preserve the safety and freedom of generations of Americans to come. On Memorial Day, we stop, hang an AMERICAN flag outside of our homes and we pay respect for those young men that were killed in battle for our great nation. These young men, in a far off land on the other side of the world, died in a jungle, at sea, in the dessert, in a trench and many other places we care not to think about.

But on Memorial Day we need to think about these young men and what they sacrificed for all of us, so we can continue to live in free country. Everyone of these men are Heroes and they should never be forgotten. I ask that when you wake up on Monday morning Memorial Day, you say a prayer for all of these men and women that paid the ultimate price for our freedom.

WHAT!

Just when you think the left wing progressive branch of the Democratic party which is now the majority, couldn’t get any nuttier, these two classic bleeding heart progressive, lunatics Drew Warshaw and Raj Goyle are proposing using pension fund money to create affordable housing in NYC.

That’s right! A vote for one of these two train wrecks could mean NY state employees will pay for affordable housing with their pension contributions. And one thing we all know is that, the government and the leftist are great about wasting money. And when their plans fail, they always ask for more money to fix it. The NYS Comptroller does not control the NYCERS pension fund but if it happens to the NYS pension fund you better believe it will happen to the NYCERS fund next. Which is why Tom DiNapoli absolutely needs to be re-elected and is the one and only clear choice to remain the NYS Comptroller.

The below statements are taken right from their own websites.

Drew Warshaw,

“Drew will bring his personal experience taking on the housing crisis, as Chief Operating Officer and then as co-CEO of Enterprise Community Partners, where he led the largest affordable housing nonprofit in the nation to create and preserve more than 1 million affordable homes.

The Comptroller controls a $298 billion fund – and next-to-nothing is invested in solving New York’s affordable housing crisis.

Drew proposes launching the largest affordable housing fund in the United States by investing $20 billion from New York’s pension fund to build and preserve homes New Yorkers can actually afford where they live and work.

This approach will not only create a much-needed, currently nonexistent source of low-cost capital for affordable homes, helping to address the most acute challenge faced by working New Yorkers, it will also help to secure the futures of our dedicated public servants.”

Raj Goyle,

“As Comptroller, I’ll redirect more pension capital to building housing right here in New York State — treating it as a core asset class that benefits New Yorkers while delivering solid returns. Every dollar we invest out of state is a dollar not working for New Yorkers. It’s time the pension fund built communities here, created jobs here, and helped families afford to stay here.”

The Long Island Rail Road strike did not happen overnight. It is the direct result of failed leadership from Kathy Hochul and an MTA administration that has allowed labor disputes across New York to spiral out of control.

For years, hardworking transit employees have continued to move this state while working without contracts, falling behind inflation, and watching management delay negotiations until frustration reached the breaking point. Instead of stepping in early to prevent a crisis, Governor Hochul stood on the sidelines while tensions grew throughout the transit system.

Now hundreds of thousands of commuters are paying the price.

The strike at the Long Island Rail Road is not just about one union or one contract dispute. It is a warning sign about the growing labor unrest spreading across New York under Hochul’s leadership. From the LIRR, to NYC Transit, to other public sector workers across the state, employees are tired of being ignored, disrespected, and forced to fight endlessly for fair contracts and basic recognition. We know firsthand how bad things have become. TWU Local 106 will be filing Bargaining in Bad Faith charges against the MTA after contracts that should have been settled months ago continue to be withheld while management plays games instead of negotiating honestly.

Governor Hochul claims to support labor but was nowhere to be found until after the unions walked off the job and went on strike. As New Yorkers we deserve a Governor that cares enough to get directly involved, not one that is hiding behind a curtain hoping everything just works out.

The reality is simple: strong leadership could have prevented this strike. Instead, Governor Hochul allowed the situation to deteriorate until New Yorkers woke up to a transportation disaster.

At a time when the MTA faces instability, operational concerns, staffing shortages, and declining morale, Albany should be working to restore confidence and stability — not fueling conflict through inaction.

New Yorkers deserve better than political speeches about supporting workers while labor relations crumble in real time.

Governor Hochul owns this crisis. And unless leadership changes, the labor unrest spreading across New York will only get worse.

Bruce Blakeman will win in November! Blakeman will fix the MTA and New York State!

After the Executive Council and Membership voted to approve the purchase of a second TSO Building in Queens, and following a two-year search for the right location, we found it in Flushing.

This investment in the future of our union will make it easier for members to access our offices and services. While we proudly own 5768 Mosholu Avenue in the Bronx, that location is in the far northeastern section of the Bronx, making travel difficult for many members. Parking in and around the area has also been a major challenge.

We expect to close on the building this summer. Before moving in, we will be making updates, improvements, and modifications to ensure the facility fully meets the needs of our membership and our union for years to come.

We know that being a Bus Maintenance Supervisor is one of the toughest jobs in the Transit Authority. We also know that if you send a bus into service that was previously redlined, or if there is any question about whether that bus is truly serviceable, and that bus is later involved in an accident, no manager in Transit will stand behind you.

That is why every supervisor must make sure that no bus is released into service unless it is 100% compliant with all Transit Authority safety policies and procedures.

If you are doing your job properly, acting in good faith, and are being harassed, pressured, or intimidated by management for refusing to release questionable equipment, I want to know about it immediately pvalenti@twu106.org. Document everything, protect yourself, and we will handle it.

Do not let a bus you released onto the road end up like this.
