On May 29, Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman, candidate for Governor of New York, visited the TSO/TWU Local 106 office in the Bronx, where he received the official endorsement of Local 106. Joining Local 106 in support of his candidacy was TWU Local 252 of Long Island.

Following a meeting with the leadership teams of both Locals, Local 106 and Local 252 enthusiastically endorsed Bruce Blakeman for Governor of New York.

Local 106 President Philip Valenti spoke about the urgent need for change in New York State and expressed confidence that Bruce Blakeman will bring the leadership necessary to restore common-sense government, support transit workers, stand with law enforcement, and protect taxpayers throughout the state.

Candidate Blakeman accepted the endorsement and delivered a powerful address outlining his vision for New York. He sharply criticized the current direction of the state under Governor Kathy Hochul and detailed the policies and reforms he intends to pursue if elected Governor.

Blakeman spoke about public safety, economic growth, government accountability, and restoring confidence in state leadership. His message resonated strongly with the members and leadership in attendance, who share concerns about the future direction of New York.

Local 106 is proud to stand with Bruce Blakeman and look forward to supporting his campaign as he seeks to bring new leadership and a new direction to New York State.

Local 106 is also proud to endorse Saritha Komatireddy for Attorney General of the State of New York.

Mrs. Komatireddy is a highly qualified and experienced former federal prosecutor who has built a distinguished career serving the people of New York. During her tenure in the Eastern District of New York, she successfully prosecuted some of the nation’s most dangerous criminals, including members of ISIS, drug cartels, and other serious criminal organizations.

Her record demonstrates an unwavering commitment to justice, public safety, and the rule of law. As Attorney General, Saritha Komatireddy will hold criminals accountable, protect victims, and work to restore public confidence in government institutions.

Local 106 believes New Yorkers deserve an Attorney General who will focus on what matters most: keeping our communities safe, ensuring equal justice under the law, and rebuilding public trust that government is working for the people—not against them.

We are proud to stand with Saritha Komatireddy and support her campaign to become the next Attorney General of the State of New York.

On top of all that, during this important trip Jose still took the time to participate in the Quill Scholarship drawings at the International offices — a winner pulling the name for another winner.

Jose was accompanied on the trip by Rod Bailey of MTA Bus.

Major Arbitration Win (MSII Pay): The union won a significant arbitration case ensuring an MSII (Maintenance Supervisor II) receives the correct rate of pay, including full back pay owed since the date of promotion

Supreme Court Bus Lane Fine Win: The New York State Supreme Court ruled that the MTA cannot require operators of MTA vehicles to personally pay fines for Notices of Liability incurred while responding to emergencies or disabled buses in restricted bus lanes. This follows a lawsuit filed by Local 106 to stop the MTA from making supervisors foot the bill for actions required by their job.

PERB Impact Bargaining Win: The Public Employment Relations Board (PERB) ruled that the MTA must impact bargain with Local 106 regarding the effects of the Bus Lane Bulletin issued on October 10, 2025.

Ongoing Fight Against Anti-Union Actions,

BCC Improper Practice Charges: Operational Interference: In April 2026, Local 106 filed PERB charges against a BCC Superintendent and NYC Transit for a “historic violation” of dispatcher work. The Superintendent allegedly directly interfered with dispatcher duties by making operational adjustments to buses in service—tasks that have been the exclusive jurisdiction of BCC Dispatchers for nearly 60 years.

Misapplication of Bus Lane Laws: Despite a state law (S6815) signed by Governor Hochul to protect workers, Local 106 is continuing lawsuits to ensure reimbursement for past fines and to address a broader set of penalties involving bike lanes and double-parking.

Contractual Issues: Local 106 is navigating tough negotiations regarding MSII contracts and has warned of potential PERB charges if the MTA continues to hold up contracts to apply pressure during bargaining.

Local 106 leadership remains committed to putting members first and pushing back against management decisions that negatively impact working conditions.

TWU Local 106 proudly stood shoulder to shoulder with our brothers and sisters of Local 100 at their contract rally. Local 106 President Phil Valenti addressed the crowd, delivering a clear message: when one of us fights, we all fight.

The strength of our union has always been rooted in unity. Local 100’s fight for a fair contract is a fight for respect, dignity, and the future of every transit worker across this city. Local 106 will always answer the call to stand alongside our fellow TWU members when it matters most.

We don’t back down. We don’t divide. We stand together—and we win together.

Local 106 Recording Secretary and New York State Conference Chairman Jose DeJesus brought together many of the New York Locals to stand together in strong support of Local 100.

TWU Local 100, the union that sets the contract bargaining patterns for all other NYC transit unions is holding a rally tomorrow 5pm in front of 2 Broadway in Manhattan. We are going to be there and I am expecting to speak as well.

If anybody should be pissed off it should be you, because as Local 100 works on their 2026 contract we have not even been able to settle our contracts that expired in 2024 and 2025. This is not the fault of the union, this mess falls squarely on the backs of transit leadership.

As we work toward resolving our expired contracts that are still under the old Local 100 pattern, we have an eye and an interest on what Local 100 does right now and how the transit authority treats them, because what they get they will look to give us.

I know going right home on a Friday night after working all week is always the best feeling but once in awhile you need to sacrifice a little bit of your time for your own best interest.

We are asking all of our members, to show up at 2 Broadway, 5pm tomorrow evening, to support our brothers and sisters at Local 100 in this fight for all of our futures within the MTA.

Philip Valenti, President
