Local 106 Legislative Team Hits Albany and Makes a Big Impact!

Our Legislative Team was in Albany this week meeting with many Senators and Assembly members Lobbying for our new Bus Lane Enforcement Bill S6815/A8292, the Death Gamble Bill A6784/S6640, and we worked on a School Bus Bill for Local 252.
Not only did we have some amazing meetings with the Senators and Assembly members we picked up tremendous sponsorships from everyone we met with even some of those we ran into in the halls of the Capital.
The icing on the cake was when the Transportation Committee chaired by Senator Jeremy Cooney brought Senate Bill S6815 sponsored by Senator Comrie to a vote and commenting that “in his tenure this Bill just makes a lot of sense and we need to get this done”. The committee then voted unanimously by all members to move the Bill forward. Some of our Legislative team was in the room for this fantastic vote, while the other half of the team was meeting with Assembly Leader Carl Heastie. We want to especially thank TWU International Staff Rep Christina Scott, Local 2001 President Patrick Howard and Local 1400 Vice President Matt Wright for joining us as part of the TWU NY/NJ State Conference. Their support is unbelievably helpful and appreciated.
This was by far the most successful Lobbying trip Local 106 has ever had, and we will continue the charge forward until we get these common sense Bills passed into law.
