Queens Division Steps up Big to Cover “A” Line Shuttle for Five Months

Kudos to the Queens Division Dispatchers that worked 24/7 for the last five months supervising the operators on the A Shuttle. Also, a thumbs up to the MTA Bus Division for jumping in and covering any open tricks Queens could not cover.

On January 17, 2025 the MTA suspended A train service to the Rockaways for five months, disrupting commutes for thousands of riders who depend on the subway line to travel between Howard Beach-JFK Airport and Far Rockaway-Mott Avenue or Rockaway Park-Beach 116th Street. The A train service was suspended because, a bridge the A line travels over, needed to be replaced.

The Transit Supervisors, as always, stepped up and worked throughout the winter in the harshest elements of the year in an area of NYC that gets colder than most due to its close proximity to the water. Our members were out there covering 18 posts including patrol cars, daily to see to it that the residents of Queens have the best commute possible under these difficult circumstances. Although MTA management did not give credit to the Unions that ran the shuttles and replaced the bridge, we acknowledge all of your hard work and dedication to the job and the City of New York.

Our Division Chairmen did a great job as well. Todd Napoletano, Queens worked with all parties involved to ensure the Union covered all of the work we were given, and when Queens came up short, MTA Bus Chairman, Rod Bailey was right there everyday, like taking the baton in a relay race and covered any open posts.

GREAT JOB EVERYONE!
