Stay out of Bus Lanes!

Our Road Dispatchers have been getting hit hard with Bus lane tickets and if you drive, park, or stand in a Bus Lane during hours of operation you face fines ranging from $50 to $250. It may be your first time getting this fine and that fine may be the max of $250 because the vehicle you’re driving has received several fines already.

I said this before and I’ll keep saying it, STAY OUT OF THE BUS LANE COMPLETLEY! Park your vehicle five blocks away if you have to and if that causes a major delay to the bus and everything else then so be it! There have been some precautions that have come out that were said may protect you from being ticketed, like parking behind the bus, putting your flashers on or putting a construction cone on your roof. I can’t say with 100% certainty that that would stop you from ever getting a ticket but what I do know for sure is that staying away completely will. The same thing goes for driving MTA vehicles in Bus only Busway Zones.

We met with the heads of DOT in 2023 to try and get MTA vehicles that are responding to an accident or incident exempt from fines but that was pointless as they didn’t want to hear anything about it. We are currently looking into another way to deal with this but until that happens, Stay out of Bus Lanes!
