Local 106 Scores Major Arbitration Win, Protecting Members Rights and Working Conditions!

Management at the Zerega Central Maintenance Facility in the Bronx, crossed the line when they violated a long standing practice by changing how absence coverage is filled ,when management, in response to then NYC Transit Authority President Rich Davey’s overtime moratorium letter, on April 12, 2024 was sent out. Management thought they had the unquestioned right to change how work is covered and started forcing our members to perform the work of two jobs at the same time.

Local 106 Maintenance Chairman Antonio Serrano immediately responded and filed grievances. Even though the Authority’s witnesses lied to try and win this grievance, we prevailed in arbitration! In the end, we were always on the right side of this argument and we were not going to sit idly by and allow management to use the managements rights clause of the contract as a catch-all to change practices anytime they want. Especially a practice that has such fundamental impact on our members.

We have shown once again! Just because there’s a management rights clause in the contract, that does not give you the right to do whatever the hell you want!
